Ellen Burstyn and the late James Caan star in “Queen Bees,” a romantic comedy that is currently (Jan. 18th) the third most watched movie on Netflix in the United States, according to FlixPatrol, a specialized website that collects viewership data. The film is only behind “Lift” and “Super Mario Bros. The Movie.”
Apart from Burstyn and Caan (whose performance was his last), the movie also stars other well-known names such as Ann-Margret, Christopher Lloyd, Jane Curtin, Loretta Devine, and Elizabeth Mitchell.

However, it’s impressive that the film climbed the charts so fast, as it only was added on the platform on Jan. 17th. The movie was released theatrically in 2021, but it didn’t perform well commercially. It grossed $2.3 million against a reported budget of $5 million. It received mixed reviews by critics, who praised the cast but found fault with the script.
What is ‘Queen Bees’ about?
The movie follows Helen (Burstyn), who reluctantly moves into a retirement home for the elderly after her house burned down. However, in the facility, she has trouble fitting in with a group of women who called themselves “Queen Bees,” headed by Janet, played by Jane Curtin.
Later, Helen and the Queen Bees will grow closer thanks to the game of bridge. She also will start having feelings for Dan, another resident of the facility. The film was penned by Donald Martin, and it was directed by Michael Lembeck.
