While Netflix is mainly centered in the United States, European countries have certainly given the platform some of its best titles. Now, Poland is seeking to make a mark in November with “Go Ahead, Brother,” a crime thriller series poised to keep you on the edge of your seat.
Its story follows an elite police officer who experiences a panic attack at work and, as a result, has to resign. As if that wasn’t bad enough, his father dies, leaving him with gambling debts that he decides to pay off by working as a security guard in a clothing complex. Here, the protagonist will have an unexpected chance to change his luck, but at a significant cost.
Of course, as is the case with any production from the #1 streamer that is not in the fantasy genre, many are eager to know if it is based on true events. Here, learn all about the inspiration behind “Go Ahead, Brother,” as shared by its creators.
The truth behind ‘Go Ahead, Brother’
The story told in “Go Ahead, Brother” is so complex, full of ups and downs, tragedies, and achievements that it makes the tale incredibly human, leaving viewers to wonder if all the events depicted happened to a real person who inspired the series.
According to the creators of the show, Maciej Pieprzyca and Kacper Wysocki, the production is not based on any real situation; rather, it is a result of what the directors loved about the neo-western genre and what they thought was lacking and not being seen within it. As Wysocki explained to Swiat Seriali:
“What can I say about “Go Ahead, Brother”? First of all, I am very lucky to have been able to tell this story, which came from a casual conversation with Łukasz Dzięcioł about the series we love, but also about those we haven’t seen but would like to see”.
But not everything is fictional! As reported by Gazeta, prior to filming, the actors trained with the GROM Military Unit for three months. This rutine was not only to prepare them physically but also to immerse them in the daily lives of these workers and to understand the atmosphere in a real elite police tactical force. So, while “Go Ahead, Brother” is not based on factual events, it made sure to make its elements seem as realistic as possible!
