One of the most-anticipated films of the year is Richard Linklater’s new action comedy “Hit Man,” which he co-wrote with its star Glen Powell. Loosely based on a true story, the movie is set to become one of the biggest hits for Netflix this year, arriving on the platform on June 7.
Set in New Orleans, Powell stars as college professor Gary Johnson, who discovers that he has a talent for posing undercover as a hitman. However, this new enterprise will be put in jeopardy after he falls in love with one of his potential clients, Maddison, played by Adria Arjona.
The rest of the cast includes Austin Amelio, Retta, Sanjay Rao, Evan Holtzman and Molly Bernard. Who composed the score for Hit Man?
The movie’s score was composed by Graham Reynolds, who is a frequent collaborator of Linklater. The pair have worked together in previous projects such as “A Scanner Darkly,” “Bernie,” “Up To Speed” and “Before Midnight.” While other of his works include HBO’s “The Diplomat.” However, the movie also features songs you might recognize.
Which songs appear on the soundtrack of ‘Hit Man’?
To give the movie the right atmosphere, the film features famous tracks curated by music supervisor Randall Poster, whose recent credits include Sofia Coppola’s “Priscilla” and Wes Anderson’s “Asteroid City.”
Poster told NME that the soundtrack features artists from New Orleans. “The music in this film was born out of New Orleans and has that spirit of letting the good times roll,” he told the outlet.
As the film is a romantic comedy, the music also had to reflect that. “If you look at some of the New Orleans jargon, romance is generally complicated and sometimes duplicitous and sometimes aggravating and sometimes tragic. But there’s a spirit of endurance within it – just like this movie,” he told NME.
