<p>There are various reasons why a side character might shine more than the protagonist. Sometimes, our main guy or girl is a bit dull or straightforward. Other times, they may not be as exceptional as they believe. However, many times, side characters help enhance the narrative and provide perspective to the core challenge.</p>

<h2>Mushu in Mulan (1998)</h2>



<p>Live-action remake of this Disney classic was destined to fail for several reasons: not being able to have a proper theatrical release, changing so much of the story and, of course, not having Mushu (voiced by Eddie Murphy). While we admit that there were real possibilities that the CGI version of this dragon wouldn’t have been so… appealing, this side character is one that steals thes show.</p>

<h2>Emily Charlton in The Devil Wears Prada (2006)</h2>



<p>Emily Blunt’s portrayal of Emily Charton exemplifies her exceptional acting prowess. She brings remarkable depth to the character—an ambitious workaholic with a penchant for fashion and a slightly mean-girl demeanor. Initially hesitant about Andy’s (Anne Hathaway) hiring, Emily’s character evolves significantly throughout the movie.</p>

She should have been the one in Paris, and we stand by that.</p>



<h2>Neil in Tenet (2020)</h2>



<p>Tenet, by Christopher Nolan, is a movie that is more about vibes than characters. However, we must say that one of the film’s best characters is Neil, portrayed by Robert Pattinson. If the movie is about style, he is the one that brings it out the most.</p>

<p>Neil is the one who helps the Protagonist (John David Washington) to discover the truth behind all these time-manipulation schemes to end the world. There are several theories about Neil’s true identity (is he the son of Elizabeth Debicki’s character?), but what thing do we know: thanks to him, the Protagonist is able to save the day.</p>



<h2>Fat Amy from Pitch Perfect (2012)</h2>



<p>Pitch Perfect is filled with great side characters, but Fat Amy takes the crown. Of course, Rebel Wilson’s comedic timing elevates the role, but truly, there’s no Pitch Perfect without this one. She just makes the movie better, and funnier.</p>

<p>Also, we can argue that she does the same for the movie’s acapella group, the Bellas, which needed a fresh approach to entertainment. If the story is somewhat formulaic, we can forgive that just to hear Wilson’s great vocals and unhinged jokes.</p>



<h2>Hermione from Harry Potter (2001-2011)</h2>



<p>As the majority of millennials, we love Harry Potter and we love the titular character. However, we also know that Hermione is the best of them all. Super smart and brave, she can be very stubborn when needed, but she is also a kind hearted person.</p>

Meanwhile, Bruner’s sassy and bold demeanor is the perfect way to give her some perspective when she is being too… teenager. But, when Nadine most needs him, he is there for her, and offers some wisdom.</p>



<h2>Inigo Montoya in The Princess Bride (1987)</h2>



<p>Directed by Rob Reiner, this is a timeless fairy tale that weaves together romance, adventure, and humor. While the film tells the story of Buttercup and Westley, two star-crossed lovers separated by fate, there is a side character that steal the show: Inigo Montoya.</p>

However, this time, our protagonist is a 32-year-old woman, played by <strong>Renée Zellweger</strong>, who is a little bit lost about what she wants out of life.</p>

<p>However, the story gets complicated when she meets Mark Darcy, played by<strong> Colin Firth</strong>, a man she first despises for considering him pretentious but then they get each other. <h3>The Sound of Music (1965)</h3>



<p><strong>“The Sound of Music”</strong> is also a classic tale of an enemies-to-lovers romance. Based on the 1949 memoir The Story of the Trapp Family Singers by Maria von Trapp, the movie follows <strong>Maria (Julie Andrews) </strong>as she works as governess to seven children and her eventual marriage with their father Captain Georg von Trapp.</p>

<p>The Captain, played by <strong>Christopher Plummer</strong>, isn’t approving of Maria’s teachings to his children at first and they clash because of it. However, they then learn how to understand each other and they fall in love.</p>



<h3>The Bodyguard (1992)</h3>



<p>This film serves as an enemies-to-lovers in the middle of an excellent action thriller. <strong>Kevin Costner</strong> plays the titular bodyguard, Frank, who is hired to protect singer and actress <strong>Rachel, </strong>played by <strong>Whitney Housto</strong>n, whose life is being threatened by an unknown person.</p>

<p>However, at first, she doesn’t want to follow Frank’s new rules and he isn’t impressed by <strong>her diva attitude</strong>. But after getting to know each other, Frank ends up breaking his own rules of getting emotionally involved with his clients.</p>



<h3>Rosaline (2022)</h3>



<p>This rom-com starring<strong> Kaitlyn Dever</strong> is based on the 2012 young adult novel “<strong>When You Were Mine” </strong>by Rebecca Serle, which in turn was inspired by William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. It follows Rosaline, after she was dumped by Romeo.</p>

<p>In this reinterpretation of the classic story, Rosaline finds her own love story with Dario, portrayed by <strong>Sean Teale. </strong>Their first encounter doesn’t go very well, as she is still pining after Romeo, but then, she realizes that love isn’t how one thinks.</p>



<h3>Sweet Home Alabama (2002)</h3>



<p>This classic rom-com follows<strong> Reese Witherspoon</strong> as Melanie, a successful fashion designer who has to return to her town in Alabama to divorce her high-school sweetheart <strong>Jake (played by Josh Lucas) </strong>to be able to marry her new boyfriend <strong>(portrayed by Patrick Dempsey).</strong></p>

<h3>What Happens in Vegas (2008)</h3>



<p><strong>Cameron Diaz</strong> and <strong>Ashton Kutcher</strong> star in this movie about a couple who spontaneously get hitched and hit the jackpot in a Las Vegas casino. Their initial plan to quickly divorce and split the money takes a twist when the judge in divorce court throws in an unexpected ruling, <strong>making things more complicated.</strong></p>
