Patricia Highsmith’s Tom Ripley has endured as one of the most iconic characters in fiction, especially in the crime genre. Prior to the 1999 film adaptation of “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” the novel had already been brought to the screen as “Purple Moon” in 1960, starring Alain Delon as Tom, a portrayal many consider the definitive version of the character. In 2009, BBC Radio 4 produced adaptations of all five Ripley novels, featuring Ian Hart as Tom.



Additionally, other novels in the Ripley series found their way to cinema. “Ripley’s Game” was first adapted as “The American Friend” in 1977, starring Dennis Hopper, and later in 2002, it was re-adapted under its original title with John Malkovich. “Ripley Under Ground” was turned into a film in 2005, with Barry Pepper taking on the lead role.

The first official trailer for the <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/movies/release-date-plot-and-more-of-lady-gaga-and-joaquin-phoenixs-joker-folie-a-deux">highly anticipated sequel “Joker: Folie à Deux”</a> has finally been released. The first footage show <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/joaquin-phoenix">Joaquin Phoenix</a> and Lady Gaga fall in love in a twisted way in the upcoming musical film.



Director Todd Phillips debuted the trailer at the 2024 CinemaCon, the annual convention for movie theater owners. “Folie à Deux” follows the successful 2019’s “Joker,” for which Phoenix won an <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/oscars">Oscar </a>as Best Actor.



While the original movie was supposed to be a stand alone film, both Phillips and the actor wanted to bring the character to life one more time. “We loved the character of Arthur too much, but we didn’t want to jinx the [original] movie,” Phillips said. “We cast <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/lady-gaga">Gaga</a> because she’s magic,” he added at the conference.

<h2>Phillips weighs in the “musical” aspect of Joker 2</h2>



The first <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/movies">movie</a> served as an origin story for Batman’s most famous enemy, following Arthur Fleck, a failed stand-up comedian whose descent into mental illness started a counterrevolution. Meanwhile, the second film has been reported to be a “jukebox musical,” but Phillips clears the air:



“Music is an essential element,” said the director during the panel, confirming that music and dancing will be featured heavily in the picture. “It doesn’t veer too far from the first film. We use music to make us whole, to balance the fractures in ourselves,” he added.

“Joker” soared to unprecedented heights as a blockbuster, crossing the $1 billion mark worldwide, against a modest budget of $62.5 million, and making history as the first R-rated film to achieve such a feat.



Now, anticipation mounts as “Joker 2,” titled “Folie à Deux,” gears up for its big-screen debut on Oct. 4, 2024 — precisely five years after its predecessor. This time, after the success of the first one, the reported production budget is $200 million.

The first teaser trailer for the <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/movies/mickey17-with-robert-pattinson-release-date-cast-and-plot-for-bong-joon-hos-trhiller-20240221-SPEN-7271.html">highly-anticipated sci-fi film “Mickey17,” directed by Bong Joon-ho </a>and starring <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/robert-pattinson">Robert Pattinson</a>, was revealed on April 9 at the CinemaCon 2024. And the first reactions suggest that the title will be leaning more towards comedy than originally expected.



Both Pattinson and Bong Joon-ho were at the conference, in which they raved about each other. “I’ve been the biggest fan of Bong for many years. He’s my hero,” the actor said about the Oscar-winning director. “I read the script and I thought it was one of the most funny, bizarre scripts I’ve read in my life,” he added.

Meanwhile, the filmmaker said that <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/celebrities/baby-bliss-robert-pattinson-and-suki-waterhouses-welcome-their-first-child">Pattinson, 37, and who recently became a dad</a>, was the perfect casting choice for the movie due to the “crazy glint in his eyes.” While footage from the first teaser won’t be revealed to the public yet, here’s what has been reported.



<h2>‘Mickey17,’ a sci-fi epic with comedic flair</h2>



The film is based on Edward Ashton’s book “Mickey7.” The novel revolves around an “expendable” employee assigned to a mission to colonize a new world. Despite being considered disposable, he rebels against the idea of being replaced by his clone.



Bong Joon-ho revealed at the CinemaCon 2024 that he renamed the movie “Mickey17” because he kills Pattinson’s character 10 more times than in the novel. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the first trailer opens with Robert Pattinson’s character losing a hand and then dying and being “reprinted” several times. The footage shows Mark Ruffalo’s character declaring that those multiple versions must be “exterminated.”

Apart from the first images, a talking point of the teaser was Pattinson’s voice. According to Variety’s Matt Donelly, the actor is “doing this accent that’s like Joe Pesci as Tweety Bird, or that incredible Funny or Die skit ‘Ryan Gosling’s Acting Range.’”



The rest of the cast includes Toni Colette, Naomi Ackie, and Steven Yeun. Ruffalo plays a “dictator,” according to the director. Produced by Warner Bros. the film has been delayed twice, and it’s now going to be released on January 31, 2025.

Apple Studios and Sony have released the first trailer of “Fly Me To the Moon,” a <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/romance">romantic</a> <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/comedy">comedy</a> set in the 1960s with Channing Tatum and Scarlett Johansson. The film will land in theaters on July 12.



Set against the space race of the 1960s, Johansson stars as a marketing exec who is tasked by the White House to film a fake moon landing in case the real mission fails, while Tatum plays the launch director of the operation.

<h2>‘Fly Me To the Moon,’ a rom-com set against the space race</h2>



The project was acquired by Apple in 2022 in a $100 million deal following a bidding war between studios. First known as “Project Artemis,” the film has suffered some setbacks, such as Chris Evans’ departure from the project. Evans was supposed to play Tatum’s role but a production delay left him out of the film.



However, Johansson, who also produces the film, has praised his co-star in a new interview with People Magazine. “Channing is such an easy-going actor, good spirited and professional. Falling in love with him onscreen was pretty easy. He’s such a likable person,” she said.
