After years of anticipation, “Scary Movie 6” is officially underway. The project reunites the Wayans brothers for the first time in 18 years, bringing back the creative team that helped define the franchise. Regina Hall and Anna Faris are confirmed to return as Brenda Meeks and Cindy Campbell, reprising their iconic roles in the comedy series.

As excitement builds, fans are eager for any hints about what to expect from the new installment. In an interview with ComicBook to promote his new movie “Him,” Wayans discussed “Scary Movie 6” and listed some recent hits that could get spoofed in the upcoming sequel.

I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025)

It’s unclear whether Wayans was referring to the whole “I Know What You Did Last Summer” franchise or just the latest installment, but it’s quite possible he is interested in the newest entry. The 2025 film, the fourth in the slasher series, stars Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, and Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt reprising their original roles as Ray and Julie. Set 27 years after the Tower Bay murders, the story follows a new hook-wielding killer who begins targeting a group of friends after they cover up a deadly car accident.

Scream (1996-)

Of course, Wayans seems eager to return to the horror franchise that “Scary Movie” is most associated with. The “Scream” series has remained a defining force in horror for decades, with six films released and a seventh in development. In the most recent installments, returning stars like Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, and Roger L. Jackson share the screen with newer leads such as Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Mason Gooding, and Jasmin Savoy Brown, keeping the franchise fresh for a modern audience.

Heretic (2024)

Hugh Grant truly delivered a career-turning performance in “Heretic,” and it hasn’t gone unnoticed by Wayans. The tense psychological horror stars Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East as two Mormon missionaries who stumble into the disturbing world of the mysterious Mr. Reed, with Grant’s chilling portrayal earning him nominations at the Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice, and BAFTAs.

Longlegs (2024)

“Longlegs” was the definitive horror hit of 2024, making it hard to imagine the upcoming “Scary Movie” ignoring it. Osgood Perkins’s film delivers a chilling thriller, starring Maika Monroe, Blair Underwood, Alicia Witt, and Nicolas Cage, and follows an FBI agent tracking a mysterious occultist serial killer responsible for murdering families across Oregon. It has become Neon’s highest-grossing domestic release, the top-grossing independent film of 2024, and the most successful film of Perkins’s career.

Get Out (2017)

“Get Out” already had plenty of sinister humor, making it an easy target for “Scary Movie 6” to push even further. Jordan Peele’s directorial debut blends psychological horror with sharp social commentary, starring Daniel Kaluuya and Allison Williams as a young Black man who uncovers disturbing secrets when visiting his white girlfriend’s family. The film was a major commercial success, grossing $255 million worldwide on a $4.5 million budget, and won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, with additional nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor.

Nope (2022)

Jordan Peele’s sci-fi creation has become somewhat underrated over the years, but with Wayans being a horror fan himself, it’s no surprise he would take it into account. Peele’s third feature film, released in 2022, blends neo-Western, science fiction, and horror elements, following siblings played by Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer who work with horses while trying to capture evidence of a mysterious UFO in Agua Dulce, California. Steven Yeun, Michael Wincott, Brandon Perea, and Keith David appear in supporting roles, and the film draws inspiration from classics such as “King Kong,” “Jurassic Park,” and “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.”

Sinners (2025)

Probably the most acclaimed horror movie of 2025 and already generating Oscar buzz, “Sinners” is a must-include for the list of titles” Scary Movie 6″ will parody. Ryan Coogler’s film is set in 1932 in the Mississippi Delta and stars Michael B. Jordan in dual roles as criminal twin brothers who return to their hometown and confront a supernatural evil. The cast also features Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton in his film debut, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Benson Miller, and Delroy Lindo.
