The “Alien” franchise has long been a benchmark for sci-fi horror, blending terrifying extraterrestrial creatures with high-stakes storytelling. Since Ridley Scott’s original 1979 masterpiece, the series has expanded across films, comics, and television, cementing its place in pop culture as one of the most influential sci-fi sagas of all time. With each installment, audiences have eagerly followed humanity’s encounters with the relentless Xenomorphs, while filmmakers experimented with tone, design, and narrative scope.
“Alien: Romulus,” released in 2024, continued this tradition, delivering both suspenseful horror and fresh character-driven storytelling. Fans were particularly drawn to the survival arcs of Rain and Andy, played by Cailee Spaeny and David Jonson, who quickly became central figures in the latest chapter of the franchise. While excitement remains high for where the story could go next, developments behind the scenes have now set the stage for a major change in the series’ creative team.
Inside the Plans for the Sequel and the Search for a New Director
According to TooFab, Fede Álvarez has confirmed that he will not be directing the upcoming “Alien: Romulus” sequel, though he will remain involved as a producer alongside Ridley Scott. “We just finished the script, actually, for a sequel for Romulus. But I’m gonna pass the torch on this one as director,” he told TooFab. “I’m going to produce it, with Ridley Scott, we’re gonna produce it together and we’re right now trying to find a new filmmaker to come in.”

Álvarez made it clear that he and Scott remain deeply invested in the story they began with Romulus. “We wrote the story because we really love what we started with Romulus and we want to continue the story. We love the story and now we just want to find a director that really wants to go for the jugular,” he explained, emphasizing that the sequel will maintain the franchise’s intense horror elements.
Looking ahead, Álvarez shared that he plans to focus on a personal creation. “I want to work on a personal project that me and my co-writer, we’ve been keeping on the back burner for a while and we feel it’s the right time to go and work on an original,” he said, though he didn’t reveal any details.
