Zach Cregger boasts a highly prolific career, having worked in over 32 movies and series. However, it wasn’t until he directed “Barbarian” that he achieved worldwide celebrity status. Now, he aims to further his path in the horror genre with “Weapons”.

Despite the fact that these films typically yield substantial profits for both directors and distribution companies, Cregger’s hit performed incredibly well at the box office, grossing $45.4 million against its initial budget of $4 million.

The strategy behind “Barbarian” was to resonate with horror fans. Not only did Cregger cast Bill Skarsgård, the emerging genre icon, but he also enlisted Justin Long, known for his role in “Jeepers Creepers”. With information about his upcoming picture beginning to surface, it appears that Cregger is crafting a project nearly as promising as his last.

What is Weapons about?

The plot of “Weapons” will center around a group of high school students who vanish in a small town. According to a list of influences curated by Zach Cregger for Letterboxd two years ago, we can anticipate “Weapons” to follow in the footsteps of other disappearance-themed movies such as “The Descent,” “Get Out,” and “Gone Girl.”

The Hollywood Reporter also revealed that the film will be a horror-infused, multi-story narrative, sharing thematic similarities with Paul Anderson’s “Magnolia,” renowned for its intricate web of connections between the characters’ lives.

Weapons cast: Which celebrities are in the film?

“Weapons” has dominated headlines across every media outlet this week due to the recent additions to its cast. Over the past few days, Benedict Wong, Amy Madigan, Austin Abrams, June Diane Raphael and Cary Christopher have signed their contracts to join the production.

Remarkably, these actors will take the roles of secondary characters. The primary roles will be portrayed by Alden Ehrenreich, Julia Garner, and Josh Brolin, who leads the film.

Weapons release date

Given that the movie is still in pre-production and continues to add names to its cast, it’s almost impossible to anticipate a release date for 2024. Moreover, the film would have to contend with anticipated box office hits like “A Quiet Place: Day One” and “Maxxxine”, probably losing money in the dispute.

Nonetheless, “Weapons” is likely to hit theaters in early 2025. Production is expected to proceed quickly as this is the sole project on Zach Cregger’s agenda, and he is known for his diligent and rapid work ethic. Despite numerous setbacks, he managed to complete “Barbarian” in just one year.
