After The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the world of The Hunger Games continues to expand, just like Panem. This time, it will be through “Sunrise on the Reaping“, the upcoming adaptation by the talented author Suzanne Collins.

The story will explore Haymitch Abernathy’s past, focusing on his experiences as a tribute during the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell, and will begin on the day the event starts.

Both the drama and the book will highlight how he becomes the second victor from District 12. These were notable for featuring a twist in which 48 tributes (2 boys and girls from each district) competed instead of the usual 24.

When will Sunrise on the Reaping be released?

Despite many aspects of “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” remaining a mystery, it has been confirmed when the adaptation will hit the big screen, scheduled for November 20, 2026.

There were several rumors about who could portray Haymitch Abernathy in the film, but it has not been reported if any actor has been chosen yet. Some names mentioned included Mike Faist, Louis Hofmann and Tom Glynn-Carney.

As for the book of the same name on which the story is based, its publication date has been confirmed for March 18, 2025. The story will be set 40 years before “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”.

According to several entertainment media outlets, the novel will begin on the morning of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, won by the one who later became the mentor and friend of Katniss Everdeen.
