Viggo Mortensen is not only known for bringing Aragorn to life in “The Lord of the Ringsfilm trilogy, but he has also built a successful career both in front of and behind the camera, working as a producer and director.

One of his recent works as a filmmaker and screenwriter has been “The Dead Don’t Hurt“, a dramatic western in which he also stars alongside Vicky Krieps (Corsage, Phantom Thread and Les Trois Mousquetaires: D’Artagnan).

The romantic story is set in the 1860s and follows fiercely independent French-Canadian Vivienne Le Coudy as she enters a relationship with Danish immigrant Holger Olsen, but the Civil War drives them apart and keeps them apart.

How to stream ‘The Dead Don’t Hurt’ in the US

The Dead Don’t Hurt” had its big premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival and then moved to theaters. Now it’s time for its streaming debut, which is scheduled for July 16, 2024.

The R-rated dramatic and romantic western will be available on VOD, meaning for purchase or rental, through platforms like Prime Video, Google, Vudu and Apple TV. The date for SVOD has not yet been confirmed.

It is Viggo Mortensen’s first film as a director?

No! Viggo Mortensen debuted as a director in 2016 with the film “Falling”, also known as “Fallen”. The drama was also written by the actor and marked his first work behind the camera in a feature film.

The star not only took care of all the behind-the-scenes work but also starred in the project, playing John Peterson, a man dealing with his father’s dementia, portrayed by Lance Henriksen (The Terminator and Aliens).
