A Limited Run Brings ‘Terminator 2: Judgment Day’ Back to Screens
The anniversary rollout is scheduled as an eight-week engagement starting May 22, with screenings planned at key repertory locations including the IFC Center in New York, the American Cinematheque in Los Angeles, and AFI Silver in the Washington D.C. area.
Audiences will have access to multiple presentation formats, ranging from original 35mm and 70mm film prints to contemporary digital options such as 4K DCP and 3D DCP restorations.
Directed by James Cameron, the 1991 sequel built on the foundation of its predecessor while expanding both its narrative scope and technical ambition. The picture follows a reprogrammed Terminator tasked with protecting a young John Connor from a more advanced, shape-shifting machine.
The cast includes Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Edward Furlong, and Robert Patrick, whose performances became closely associated with the franchise’s identity. Upon its original release in 1991, the film achieved significant commercial success and earned multiple Academy Awards, particularly in technical categories.
The upcoming theatrical return arrives as part of a broader trend of anniversary reissues, positioning the movie for renewed exhibition in formats that reflect both its original presentation and subsequent restorations.
