Netflix has confirmed a sequel to “Under Paris,” unveiling a poster featuring sharks forming a “2” in front of the Eiffel Tower underwater, with a 2027 release window now in view. The project marks a continued investment in a title that quietly became one of the platform’s more notable global performers in 2024.

‘Under Paris 2’ Takes Shape as Production Begins

Development on the follow-up first surfaced in late 2024, signaling early confidence in the film’s international traction. Momentum accelerated earlier this year when Alexandre Aja was confirmed to take over directing duties once again.

At the same time, Bérénice Bejo is set to reprise her role as Sophia, anchoring continuity between the two pictures. Her return suggests the sequel will build directly on the character-driven stakes established in the original, rather than pivoting to a standalone narrative. Production has now moved from planning to execution, with filming reported to have started in France.

Released in June 2024, the original movie combined environmental anxieties with creature-feature spectacle, following a marine scientist confronting a deadly shark presence in Paris. Despite a mixed critical response, the title gained significant traction on Netflix, reaching tens of millions of viewers within its first week and climbing the platform’s global rankings shortly after debut.
