Without a doubt, Maika Monroe is solidifying her place as one of the most prominent horror actresses of her generation. Since her breakout role in “It Follows,” her performance hinted at a bright future, one that’s now fully blossoming.

In “Longlegs,” Monroe breathed life into a character as memorable as Jodie Foster‘s Clarice Starling in “Silence of the Lambs”. While Nicolas Cage undeniably steals the spotlight, Monroe’s presence is anything but overshadowed, and it seemed inevitable that she’d be tapped for another genre film.

That didn’t take long! According to The Hollywood Reporter, the star has signed on to headline a remake of the iconic 1992 psychological thriller “The Hand That Rocks the Cradle,” a title that left an indelible mark on cinema history.

All about the remake of ‘The Hand That Rocks the Cradle’

It seems Monroe isn’t afraid to revisit iconic horror tales! By stepping into a legendary film like Curtis Hanson’s classic, she’s proving she’s willing to take bold risks to continue her meteoric rise to stardom.

20th Century Studios is backing the project, with direction from Michelle Garza Cervera, best known for her unsettling work on “Huesera,” the Mexican picture that kept audiences up at night.

“The Hand That Rocks the Cradle” centers on Claire Bartel, a suburban mother who hires nanny Peyton Flanders, unaware that Peyton harbors a deep vendetta against her. What unfolds is a chilling revenge plot that subjects Claire to unimaginable nightmares.

The movie was previously remade in 1993 as “Khal-Naaikaa,” an Indian adaptation, and “Supernatural” writer Daniel Loflin once intended to create a 2022 reimagination for ABC Family, though that plan never materialized. Monroe’s involvement will mark the second official remake of Hanson’s original.

As for Monroe’s role, information from The Hollywood Reporter confirms she’ll portray the nanny, a significant departure from her typical “final girl” roles, signaling an exciting new direction in her career.
