There is little unanimity when it comes to deciding on the worst movie ever made. However, critics and the public alike have always seemed to be of the same opinion that “Dracula Untold” is among the top ten.
This perception has changed since the Luke Evans drama was uploaded to Netflix in late June 2024, where it has quickly experienced immense viewership, becoming the most-watched movie worldwide in just one day.
With its newfound popularity, many have come forward to say that the film is among their favorite titles. Furthermore, many of them are asking for a second part. What are the odds?
All on the possibility of a ‘Dracula Untold’ sequel
Given the extremely open ending of “Dracula Untold,” it’s clear that the initial plan was to continue with a sequel. So, why hasn’t it come out after ten years? Will it ever see the light of day?

First, it’s important to know that this film was intended to be a central part of the Dark Universe, Universal’s franchise aimed at reviving the stories of their iconic monsters from the 1930s.
The goal was to shed light on a different side of these creatures, as “Dracula Untold” creates an origin story for the title character rather than using the storyline of Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel. However, the flick was not as successful as producers had hoped.
Although it made some money at the box office, grossing $217.1 million against a budget of $70–100 million, it was harshly criticized. Such a negative reception led the team behind the movie to cancel plans for any sequels.
When the next film in the universe, “The Mummy” with Tom Cruise, performed just as poorly, Universal announced in 2019 that the Dark Universe was canceled and they would return to stand-alone features. Therefore, a “Dracula Untold” sequel is not currently planned. However, with the recent resurgence of interest in the production, it is possible that Universal might reconsider.
