Who would have thought that the highly acclaimed 1957 drama “12 Angry Men” would serve as inspiration for one of the most iconic horror movies of the 2010s? Well, something even more surprising has happened: “Circle” is getting a sequel!

The original film revolves around fifty people held captive in a darkened room, arranged in two concentric circles around a black dome. They are forced to decide which among them deserves to live, with one person destined to die every two minutes—whether by vote or the system’s decision.

It received praise for its thought-provoking exploration of the value of human life. While a sequel wasn’t expected, with the decline of the “Saw” franchise, it’s clear that another death-game themed picture was bound to emerge and fill the void.

Everything we know about ‘Circle’ 2

The sequel to “Circle” will be brought to life by Michael Nardelli, who portrayed the sole survivor of the game, Eric, and its original producer, Brent Stiefel. Devon Graye, renowned for his work on the script of another iconic horror film, “I See You,” will be penning the screenplay.

Although no release date has been announced yet, it’s unlikely for the flick to see the light of day this year. According to Variety, this second installment will be an indie movie, which means it won’t have the same competitive edge as some of the upcoming major 2024 titles like “Nosferatu,” “A Quiet Place: Day One,” and “Return to Silent Hill.” Releasing it now would directly lead to box office failure.

Regarding the cast, being an independent production suggests that it will likely showcase a diverse range of new faces on the big screen. This aspect was well-received in the first film, which introduced fresh talent to the entertainment industry.

If Michael Nardelli reprises his role, it’s probable that the sequel will continue where his character left off. Specifically, Eric awakens in Los Angeles and joins a group of people witnessing a fleet of alien craft hovering over the city.
