“Gladiator II” is around the corner! Ridley Scott returns to direct the sequel to one of his most beloved projects, which, 24 years ago, saw Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix clash in an enmity that will be remembered forever.

Of course, it’s not a Scott movie if it doesn’t have a star-studded cast. This time, Paul Mescal will play the lead, Pedro Pascal will co-star, and Joseph Quinn will play the antagonist, a role once portrayed by the star of “The Joker.”

Truth is, they have big shoes to fill. On the other hand, one of the many concerns for fans of the first picture is that Hans Zimmer won’t be returning to create the iconic music he composed for “Gladiator,” which earned him an Oscar nomination. So, who will be in charge of the score this time?

Who will compose the score of ‘Gladiator II’?

Hans Zimmer’s works are always memorable, but the score he created for “Gladiator” is arguably one of his most polished. Collaborating with musician Lisa Gerrard, they achieved a perfect balance between the rawness of gladiatorial combat and the fragile freedom that comes from escaping the arena.

Zimmer was asked to return for the sequel but opted not to. He felt he would inevitably repeat his previous work and wanted to avoid that. However, the musician assured fans that the score was in good hands, as the composer who took on the task began his career as Zimmer’s assistant.

This is Harry Gregson-Williams. If you’re a fan of film music, you probably know him well and sighed in relief at the news. But if you don’t, here are some titles you might recognize: “Shrek,” “The Martian,” “The Chronicles of Narnia,” “Flushed Away,” and “Bridget Jones’s Diary.”

These are just a few of the 125 works he has crafted so far. From video games to short films, he has worked in all kinds of formats and genres. So, you can rest easy. Hans Zimmer confirmed that Harry will deliver his best for the score of “Gladiator II,” and even without Zimmer’s endorsement, Gregson-Williams’s impressive career speaks for itself.
