The remake of “Bad Genius“, which has been one of the most talked-about and anticipated films by fans of the original, features talented actors such as Benedict Wong, Callina Liang and Jabari Banks in some of the main roles.

The American film is directed by J.C. Lee and is an English-language adaptation of the acclaimed 2017 Thai title of the same name, which was directed by Nattawut Poonpiriya. The screenplay was co-written by the director and Julius Onah.

Deadline reported that the production company Edens described the dramatic thriller as “a provocative and highly entertaining film“, adding that they know the movie “will keep audiences on the edge of their seats“.

When will Bad Genius be available for streaming?

Vertical has acquired the North American rights to “Bad Genius“, and the thriller is set to make its anticipated debut on October 11 in theaters across both the US and Canada. So far, it remains a mystery when it will premiere online.

Movies typically arrive on streaming platforms between 30 and 90 days after their theatrical release. Since the film premieres on October 11, we might expect its arrival on streaming between November and January.

The project was first announced in May 2019, with Erik Feig and Patrick Wachsberger as producers. Initially, Eva Anderson was set to write the script, but J.C. Lee later took on the role of director and co-writer.

What is Bad Genius about?

The story follows a group of outstanding high school students who devise a sophisticated scheme to dismantle a system and help their peers achieve high scores on standardized tests.

While the original Thai version addressed themes of academic pressure and ethics, the remake retains these core elements and possibly introduces new cultural nuances relevant to a Western audience.
