The Passion of the Christ” is one of the most important films in the history of cinema, not only for being nominated for three Oscars but also for the cultural and religious impact it has had worldwide.

Mel Gibson‘s masterpiece revived interest in religious cinema and in the portrayals of the life of Jesus, simultaneously boosting tourism to sacred sites and fostering dialogue on themes of faith and sacrifice.

Despite the controversies it generated regarding its portrayal of Jews, which some interpreted as a perpetuation of antisemitic stereotypes, the director defended his work as a faithful interpretation of biblical texts.
