“Sublime” is the upcoming title that will be added to the list of biopics and has been generating excitement among fans due to its anticipated portrayal of the iconic band, whose leader will be played by the talented KJ Apa.
The biographical movie, which still does not have a release date, will chronicle the life of Bradley Nowell and the rise of the band Sublime before his tragic death from a heroin overdose in 1996.
Justin Chon (best known for playing Eric in Twilight) will direct the drama, which is still in pre-production. He has also been responsible for the script alongside Bobby Hundreds and Chris Mundy, who created the original draft.
Who does KJ Apa play in the Sublime biopic?
KJ Apa has left his Riverdale days far behind, and after starring in romantic stories like One Fast Move, it’s time for him to showcase his dramatic talents to bring the musician Bradley Nowell to life.
Deadline reported that several sources said the actor spent nearly two years pursuing the role. After multiple meetings and sending several tapes demonstrating his desire, the producers realized he was the ideal star for the part.
So far, he is the only one confirmed for the cast, as the casting process is still underway. Therefore, it is likely that in the coming weeks we will find out who else has joined the project.
What will Sublime be about?
The film will explore the life of Bradley Nowell, his struggles with addiction and the rise of Sublime, which became a defining force in the ska-punk scene of the 90s, as well as the tragic ending of the popular singer.
The band split up after the tragic death in 1996. The other members, Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh, briefly reunited and then formed a new band called Sublime with Rome in 2009, alongside new vocalist Rome Ramirez.
