Apparently, John Green’s stardom shows no signs of slowing down, whether it’s for his best-selling books or his massively watched adaptations. The screen version of “Turtles All the Way Down” has just premiered on Max and is already among the most-watched movies in the US.
Green’s fifth solo novel has been highly praised by critics and the public alike for its accurate depiction of OCD, the mental disorder the protagonist struggles with. In an interview with Penguin Books, the author stated, “This is my first attempt to write directly about the kind of mental illness that has affected my life since childhood, so while the story is fictional, it is also quite personal.”
Not only did the book debut at number 1 on The New York Times “Best Seller List” shortly after its release, but it also remained at the top for 15 weeks and stayed on the list for more than a year.
Turtles All The Way Down is the new No. 3 movie on Max US
Romantic drama films consistently dominate the rankings of every streaming service, and “Turtles All the Way Down” is no exception, currently holding the No. 3 spot on Max US.
It has easily outshone “Inception” and “Hellboy II: The Golden Army,” two of the biggest hits in the catalog. Additionally, it’s close to surpassing “War for the Planet of the Apes,” which is experiencing a surge in viewership ahead of the release of its upcoming installment in five days.
The plot centers around teenager Aza Holmes, who grapples with OCD and anxiety in her everyday life. One day, her best friend Daisy persuades her to embark on a journey to find a missing billionaire in hopes of claiming a $100,000 reward. Aza agrees, setting off on a trip that will lead her to discover love in an unexpected place.
The lead roles are portrayed by Isabela Merced and Cree, who play Aza and Daisy, respectively. They are joined by other talented young actors such as Felix Mallard, Maliq Johnson, and Miles Ekhardt.
This marks the fifth adaptation of John Green’s work for either the big or small screen. Among the other books eagerly anticipated for adaptation by his fans are “Will Grayson, Will Grayson?” and “An Abundance of Katherines.”
