Joey King and Logan Lerman will star in Hulu’s upcoming drama series “We Were the Lucky Ones,” which is set to premiere on March 28. The series is an adaptation of Georgia Hunter’s novel of the same name, which, in turn, is based on a real story.
The show follows a Jewish family who are separated at the start of World War II and they will try everything to reunite again. The series will premiere with the release of its first three episodes, with the rest coming out weekly.
King is an Emmy-nominated actress for the series “The Act,” who is also known for roles in films such as “The Kissing Booth.” Meanwhile, Lerman is known for the Percy Jackson films and titles such as “The Perks of Being a Wallflower.” They both starred together in the 2022 action film “The Bullet Train.”

The rest of the cast of the series includes Hadas Yaron, Henry-Lloyd Hughes, Amit Rahav, Sam Woolf, Michael Aloni, Moran Rosenblatt, Eva Feiler, Lior Ashkenazi and Robin Weigert.
Erica Lipez (“Julia” and “The Morning Show”) serves as the showrunner, in addition to writing the series. Meanwhile, Thomas Kail (“Fosse/Verdon”) directs and executive produces with Jennifer Todd, Adam Milch and Hunter.
In an interview with Elle US, Lipez said that they always considered King for the role of Halina, who is the youngest of the Kurc family. “There’s just this strength and intelligence and humor and ambition to Halina that we felt like we knew Joey would capture,” Lipez told the outlet.

She also talked about Lerman, who plays Addy, one of Halina’s brothers, an adventurous composer and engineer. Lipez believes that Lerman and King are “very similar in a lot of ways” and that was useful for the characters as “they’re always described within the family as twin spirits.”
Apart from the cast, one of the biggest challenges of making the shows were the locations, as there are scenes in Brazil, Poland, France and more. According to Lipez, filming started in December 2022 and finished in spring 2023. They shot in Romania, Malaga and Cadiz.
