The script was developed by the filmmaker himself and Mona Fastvold. It narrates 30 years of the life of László Tóth, a Jewish architect born in Hungary who survived the Holocaust. After the end of World War II, he emigrated to the United States with his wife, Erzsébet, to live the American dream.

Initially, László must endure poverty and indignity, but he soon secures a contract with a mysterious and wealthy client that will change the course of his life. Brody will bring the main character to life, while Jones will portray his wife, and Pearce will be Harrison Lee Van Buren.
The director confessed during an interview with Deadline that the film “celebrates the triumphs of the boldest and most accomplished visionaries; our ancestors”, and that the title is by far the closest to his heart and his family history.
