What is ‘The Instigators’ about?
The film follows Damon and Affleck as Rory and Cobby, two men who reluctantly work together to rob a corrupt politician’s ill-gained earnings. However, when the heist goes wrong, they will have to run from police, backward bureaucrats and crime bosses. Along the way, they also convinced Rory’s therapist (Hong Chao) to join them in their endeavor.
Affleck told Entertainment Weekly that he was inspired by films such as “Midnight Run” (1988) and “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” (1969). Meanwhile, Liman told the Boston Globe that the film “takes place in a world with real stakes.”
“I love putting characters in extreme situations and sort of seeing what they do,” the director told the outlet. “‘Instigators’ gave me two fantastic characters played by two phenomenal actors to send on the run.”
