Road House has not only been trending this week because it has returned to be among the top 10 most-watched movies on Prime Video worldwide, but also because the remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal this year has done so as well.
The classic remains a quintessential action thriller from the late 1980s, known for its engaging blend of suspense, romance and drama, as well as its memorable characters and quotable dialogue.
It was directed by Rowdy Herrington and the plot was led by Patrick Swayze (Dirty Dancing and Ghost), which follows James Dalton, a security expert hired to restore order in a rowdy bar called Double Deuce.
Road House ranked Top 4 on Prime Video worldwide
After all the buzz surrounding the remake, it was time for the original version of Road House to also receive some attention and recognition. This week, the classic has become the fourth most-watched movie on Prime Video worldwide.
According to Flix Patrol, the specialized platform and metrics site, the title has accumulated hundreds of views and not only has it secured a place within the Top 10, but it has also dethroned several important productions on the service.
The narrative explores themes of redemption, honor and justice. Dalton, the main character, is portrayed as a noble and principled individual who stands up for what is right, even in the face of overwhelming opposition.
The film also delves into the darker aspects of human nature, including corruption and violence. Initially, it received mixed reviews upon its release, but it has since gained a cult following.
Patrick Swayze stars in the drama as the expert and enigmatic security guard hired to tame the Double Deuce. Although he leads the scenes, there were other stars present with significant roles.
Kelly Lynch appeared as Dr. Elizabeth Clay, a local doctor who becomes romantically involved with Dalton. Ben Gazzara portrayed Brad Wesley, the corrupt and powerful businessman who controls Jasper.
Sam Elliott brought Wade Garrett to life, Dalton’s mentor and another security guard who arrives to help him. And finally, Marshall R. Teague played Jimmy, Wesley’s main henchman and enforcer.
