A classic movie from the 2000’s is ‘The Devil Wears Prada,’ starring Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep. Based on the 2003 novel of the same name by Lauren Weisberger, the movie is set in the fashion industry and until this day, it remains as one of the best films about that world.
As Weisberger worked as an assistant for Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and the novel was based on her experiences, it is believed that the character of Miranda Priestly, played by Streep, is also based on Wintour. However, this hasn’t been confirmed. Apart from taking a critical look at New York’s elite and the fashion industry, the film’s heart lies in the story of Andy.
Played by Hathaway, Andy undergoes a transformative journey in the movie. Here are some titles that remind us of this classic film, whether because they’re set in fashion, journalism or follows a protagonist who is ambitious.

If you’re looking for another movie which depicts how it is working on a magazine (not in a very realistic way, we might add), you definitely should watch ‘13 Going on 30’. While not set in the fashion industry, this movie has been described as ‘The Devil Wears Prada of the literary world.’ Starring a fantastic Margaret Qualley, the film follows Joanna, a young intern who starts working for New York’s oldest literary agency, which looks after the interests of the reclusive writer J. D. Salinger. Just as Andy, she has to impress a tough boss and decide to pursue her true passion.
How to Lose a Guy In 10 Days

In the 2000s, all the rom-com heroines were journalists. Following the trend, we’ve got another Andy, this time played by Kate Hudson, who works for a women’s magazine and writes an advice column. However, just as the other Andy, she is interested in other themes, such as politics.
In order to impress her editor and write about other things, she accepts writing an article about how to lose a guy in 10 days. However, things will get complicated when the guy she chooses as her victim, Ben (Matthew McConaughey), also has a bet to win on his own.

Starring Isla Fisher, this film also follows an aspiring fashion journalist, Rebecca Bloomwood, who in order to get a job at the fashion magazine she dreams of, accepts to work in a finance magazine under the same publishing company. The Intern
Available to watch on: Max
This is the cozy version of ‘The Devil Wears Prada.’ Also starring Anne Hathaway, only that this time, she is the tough boss of a fashion brand, and the intern is Robert De Niro. However, there’s no workplace abuse in this one, only lessons to learn about life, balance and tai chi.
