“Merrily We Roll Along” is Richard Linklater‘s next big movie, which will not only bring the acclaimed work to the screen but will also star one of the actors of the moment: Paul Mescal (Aftersun and Gladiator II).
The story will be faithful to George Kaufman‘s popular 1934 Broadway play, so it will narrate the friendship of three friends in the Hollywood sphere, from their college years to their adult life.
The director, known for “Boyhood”, recently spoke about the adaptation with the British newspaper The Times and assured that the filming will not happen overnight but will take years to complete.
How long will it take to shoot Merrily We Roll Along?
Well, being a story that progresses through different moments in the lives of its characters, it was supposed to portray the actors at various ages. However, Richard Linklater will take the filming to another level.
The filming of “Merrily We Roll Along” will take 20 years to complete, so the cast led by Paul Mescal will have to shoot scenes that will extend over the next 17 years, according to Film Updates and Discussing Film.
The director himself confirmed that he has already finished shooting two sequences of the feature film and stated that Mescal has been “transcendental” in the role of the main character.
The actor from “Gladiator II” joined as a replacement Blake Jenner in the lead role of Franklin Shepard. The star will be accompanied by Beanie Feldstein as Mary Flynn and Ben Platt as Charley Kringas.
The film itself is an ambitious cinematic adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s acclaimed musical, so the soundtrack will be a truly standout part of the production, as it will include some of the most well-known hits.
