Among horror fans, one of the most anticipated movies of the year is “Longlegs,” Oz Perkins’ upcoming film, set to be released in theaters on July 12. The movie has sparked widespread discussions among critics and audiences alike as it has already been deemed as one of the scariest films of the year.
Set in 1974, the movie follows Lee Harker, an FBI agent tasked with solving a complex case involving a serial killer and esoteric elements. As the investigation progresses, Lee finds herself increasingly entangled with the killer and realizes she is in imminent danger.
Leading the cast is veteran actor Nicolas Cage, alongside Maika Monroe, known for her role in “It Follows.” The ensemble also includes Alicia Witt, Blair Underwood, Dakota Daulby, Erin Boyes, Lisa Chandler, Vanessa Walsh, Rryla McIntosh, Charles Jarman, and Anita Wittenberg. So, when can you watch it on streaming?
‘Longlegs’ streaming: When is the movie coming out online?
The film is being distributed by Neon, which has a partnership with Hulu since 2017. However, the exact date on when it will be released on streaming isn’t confirmed yet. Usually, Neon films take six months to arrive on the platform.
For example, “Anatomy of a Fall” premiered on October 13, 2023 and arrived on Hulu on March 22, 2024. Another recent release from the company was “Infinity Pool,” which had its theatrical premiere in January 2023 and landed on Hulu in June.
We expect the company to maintain the same schedule, especially because Neon has put a lot of effort in the marketing campaign for the film (which even included a creepy phone call going viral on social media), which is expected to be one of the biggest office hits of the year.
What are critics saying about ‘Longlegs’?
So far, the reception among critics has been positive. Those who have had access to early screenings have praised the direction and performances from Monroe and Cage. With only ten reviews so far, the film has 100% of approval on Rotten Tomatoes, with some critics calling it a classic.
