As the months pass, the wait for the Gladiator sequel is getting shorter and the hype is increasing, especially due to the latest images published of Paul Mescal (All of Us Strangers and Normal People) and Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us).

The actors donned the iconic warrior outfits, took up their swords and engaged in duels for Ridley Scott‘s new film, which will continue the legacy left by the 2000 epic classic, which starred Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix.

This time, the story will follow Lucius, the adult son of Lucilla (played once again by Connie Nielsen), who navigates a world of political intrigue and vengeance, in true Roman style.

Where was Gladiator 2 shot?

The Gladiator sequel didn’t have its set installed in a single location, but was filmed in various locations including Morocco, the United Kingdom and Malta. Each of these landscapes represents a precise moment in the story.

Production began in June 2023, but was temporarily halted the following month due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, interrupting the work being carried out in Malta. It only resumed at the end of November.

Despite having multiple locations, the initial filming took place in Sussex, United Kingdom, specifically at Devil’s Dyke, Brighton. This isn’t the first time the director has set up there, as it was also done for the original.

The same happened in Malta. According to The Train Line, the production returned once again to the European island, after having done much of the first Gladiator there, especially at the Fort Ricasoli in Kalkara.
