Benedict Cumberbatch is not only known for being one of the most versatile actors of the decade but also for bringing Dr. Stephen Strange to life in Marvel‘s successful 2016 film: Doctor Strange.
After joining the MCU, the star has also appeared in the Avengers installments, and his appearance in the fifth one (The Kang Dynasty) has been confirmed, set to hit the big screen on May 1, 2026 so far.
Shawn Levy will direct the film, based on a script developed by Michael Waldron. Despite initial progress, the project is still in production due to some significant changes, like the fact that Jonathan Majors is no longer the protagonist.
When will filming begin on Avengers: The Kang Dynasty?
Benedict Cumberbatch was one of the first actors from Avengers 5 to talk about the movie and its fate. The actor who plays Doctor Strange gave an interview to Entertainment Weekly and revealed some details, such as the filming date.
According to the British star, filming will begin at some point in 2025, as its premiere is scheduled for May 2026. This means it could start in early next year, considering the process involved.
Filming has been delayed due to the restructuring of the fifth installment, originally titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, following everything that happened with Jonathan Majors, who portrayed Kang the Conqueror.
Majors, who also appeared in Creed III and had his first cameo in the MCU in the Loki series, has been removed from the project, so the official plot and title have become a mystery until now.
On the other hand, the actor playing Strange assured during the conversation, “I’m really looking forward to seeing what’s in store for Avengers next year, there’s a lot of anticipation building up”, regarding the new storyline being crafted.
