Sigourney Weaver has had an exceptionally versatile career, spanning over 100 movies and series across a wide array of genres. However, she is particularly beloved for her contributions to sci-fi, notably her iconic role in the “Alien” franchise.
Ridley Scott knew he was working with a star the very first time he saw her playing Ripley, and he always made sure to let her know. According to IMDb, her salary for “Alien: Resurrection” exceeded the entire budget of the first film in the series.
Now, it appears that Weaver has another big project under her belt. According to Deadline and Variety, she is in talks to participate in “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” Jon Favreau’s upcoming film for Star Wars. What are the odds of her joining the project?
Could Sigourney Weaver appear in The Mandalorian and Grogu?
Sigourney Weaver has a special affinity for sci-fi productions, whether they are indie or blockbusters. And, as she herself has said, “I’d rather have a small part in a movie I love than a bigger part in one I don’t care about.” Therefore, whether she takes on a cameo or a lead character, it’s certain that Weaver would be open to starring in “The Mandalorian and Grogu.”
However, there are some external factors that may influence her decision to accept the offer. Firstly, her busy schedule alongside James Cameron and his “Avatar” franchise. She is slated to star in the three upcoming movies from the universe, which will be in production from 2025 to 2031.
She is not the only cast member with a packed schedule. Jon Favreau, the director himself, is currently focusing all his time and energy on completing the final touches of the “Skeleton Crew” series, and then will likely move on to work on “The Jungle Book 2” for Disney+.
Also, it should be noted that the film is barely beginning to cast its actors, and this is a stage in which many celebrity names come and go, with only a few of them actually signing a contract. As of now, not even Pedro Pascal, the protagonist of “The Mandalorian,” has been confirmed.
Everything is quite uncertain at this point, but at least we have a secured release date for “The Mandalorian and Grogu”: May 22, 2026. After changing the date twice due to the 2019 pandemic and the recent actors’ strike, this confirmed premiere indicates that pre-production should commence in the coming months.
