When discussing the world’s most famous sci-fi franchise and its upcoming releases, the conversation can easily stretch on for hours. From the close release of “The Acolyte” to the cancellation of Kevin Feige’s “Star Wars” movie, George Lucas’s creation boasts a multitude of projects that live in development hell.
The worst case has to do with the films. Given the passionate fanbase surrounding the universe, producers must exercise extreme caution when expanding upon the main lore. Despite its significant impact at the box office, it’s widely acknowledged that the last trilogy of the Skywalker saga failed to fully resonate with Star Wars enthusiasts.
Consequently, recognizing the lengthy preparation involved in crafting movies, Disney+ has made a strategic foray into the realm of series. And the momentum shows no signs of slowing down. Here, check out all the details about the “Star Wars” series slated for release in either 2024 or, at the latest, mid-2025.
What is the next Star Wars series coming out?
The Acolyte – June 4
“The Acolyte” is the upcoming “Star Wars” project closest to debut on the silver screen. Scheduled for release on June 4th, the series comprises eight episodes, with the first two premiering on Disney+ on the launching day, followed by subsequent episodes on a weekly basis.
Set at the conclusion of the High Republic Era, a century prior to the events depicted in “The Phantom Menace,” the production revolves around a respected Jedi master named Sol. He embarks on a quest to uncover the truth behind a series of crimes that intertwine his fate with that of Mae, a former Padawan turned formidable warrior.
Created by Leslye Headland, known for her work as a producer on “The Bachelorette” and “Sleeping with Other People,” the show features a stellar cast led by Lee Jung-jae, Amandla Stenberg, Dafne Keen, and Jodie Turner-Smith.
Skeleton Crew – 2024
While an exact release date for “Skeleton Crew” remains undisclosed, IMDb suggests it will indeed premiere at the first half of 2024. Consisting of eight episodes, it’s highly likely that its release schedule will mirror that of “The Acolyte.”
The show unfolds as a coming-of-age tale, where four children come across a mysterious discovery on their home planet, propelling them into a dangerous journey across another galaxy.
Helmed by Christopher Ford and Jon Watts, the creative minds behind the Tom Holland “Spider-Man” trilogy, the series boasts a young ensemble cast, including Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Kyriana Kratter, and Robert Timothy Smith. Jude Law also is also one of the leads!
Andor Season 2 – 2024
“Rogue One” holds a cherished place in the hearts of “Star Wars” fans, a fact not lost on its production team. Anticipation is high for the upcoming second season of “Andor,” slated to premiere this year with twelve episodes, same as its predecessor. However, rumors suggest that production may be facing delays.
This continuation will follow Cassian’s journey as he comes closer to becoming a pivotal agent for the Rebel Alliance, offering insight into the Rebellion’s ascent to prominence within the “Star Wars” universe.
Guiding the series is Tony Gilroy, renowned for his work on “Rogue One.” So far, only Diego Luna, reprising his role as Cassian, and Genevieve O’Reilly, returning as Mon Mothma, have been announced among the cast for the second season.
Ahsoka Season 2 – TBA
Various “Star Wars” focused media outlets have reported that filming for the second season of “Ahsoka” will commence later this year, though details remain scarce. No official release date has been announced, but it’s expected to debut in early 2025.
Continuing from the events of the first season, where Ahsoka and Sabine found themselves stranded while Thrawn resurfaced in Dathomir, this installment will follow their efforts to fight against the latter before it’s too late.
Helmed by Dave Filoni, a pivotal figure in the “Star Wars universe” known for his work on “Star Wars: Rebels,” “The Mandalorian,” and “Clone Wars,” the series promises to delve deeper into Ahsoka’s mission to stop Thrawn. The specific cast lineup remains undisclosed beyond the essential characters.
