After 21 years since the successful release of Freaky Friday, it has been announced that the iconic Disney movie will have a sequel, with its two main stars, Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, returning.
Filming began in June, so images of the actresses in their respective roles have not yet been released. However, it has been confirmed that they will not be the only ones returning.
Nisha Ganatra is directing, while Jordan Weiss adapted the script based on characters created by Leslie Dixon, Heather Hach and Mary Rodgers. If all goes well, the comedy will be released in 2025.
Which actors are officially returning for the sequel?
After Disney confirmed that Freaky Friday 2 was in development, fans began to wonder which original cast members would return… The first on the list were its protagonists.
Lindsay Lohan (Mean Girls) and Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween) will return to the screen as mother and daughter, Anna and Tess Coleman. This time, it will be Anna’s daughter who experiences the body swap.
One of the latest confirmed for the sequel is Chad Michael Murray (Riverdale, One Tree Hill and A Cinderella Story), who will return as Jake, Anna’s crush, who in the first film ends up liking her mother, Tess.
Several other actors will make appearances to make the comedic drama even more iconic as it arrives on screen more than 20 years after its debut. In addition to these figures, there is a talented new cast.
The new additions include Manny Jacinto (Nine Perfect Strangers and Top Gun: Maverick), Julia Butters (Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood), Maitreyi Ramakrishnan (Never Have I Ever) and Sophia Hammons (Up Here).
