“Presumed Innocent” ranks among the best legal thriller films in history. The movie starring Harrison Ford captivated critics within days of its premiere and became the eighth-highest-grossing film of 1990, accumulating $221 million worldwide against an initial budget of $20 million.
The production is based on the famous novel by Scott Turow and tells the story of Rusty Sabich, a prestigious lawyer and district attorney who is accused of murdering a colleague with whom he had an extramarital affair. Despite Sabich declaring his innocence, the evidence seems to incriminate him.
Following a television miniseries and a film sequel made for the small screen, Apple TV+ has decided to try its luck with a readaptation of Turow’s story, featuring Jake Gyllenhaal as the lead. Here, check whether its first season will have a continuation.
‘Presumed Innocent’ Season 2: All on its likelihood
While nothing is impossible, it’s highly unlikely that Apple TV+ will renew its version of “Presumed Innocent” for a second season. The production company signed a deal for a limited series, and unlike other entertainment streaming giants, it’s not known for changing plans even if a show performs exceptionally well.
Furthermore, indications suggest there won’t be any chance of continuation. The number of episodes for the production have also been arranged in advance, making it nearly impossible for the series to continue beyond the initially planned season.
Apple TV+ aims to distinguish itself from other streaming services by maintaining a strictly curated catalog, focusing on content that serves their platform, rather than accumulating an endless number of titles with low viewership. This strategy often leads to the creation of limited series rather than multi-season contracts for shows that may struggle to retain viewership beyond the first season.
Considering other factors, it also seems unlikely that Jake Gyllenhaal will have the time to dedicate to another season of “Presumed Innocent” in the near future, as he is currently involved in many upcoming projects, none of which have been completed yet.
Thus, we better enjoy the first and last season of “Presumed Innocent” the best we can. After premiering its first two episodes on June 12, the show will air its chapters weekly until July 24.
