Erik was assigned to the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego, while Lyle is at Mule Creek State Prison in Ione. Neither of them has the possibility of parole, so they have a long time ahead of them.

What did Lyle and Erik Menendez do?

Lyle and Erik Menendez are serving sentences after being found guilty of the murders of their parents (a successful businessman and his wife) on August 20, 1989, at the family home in Beverly Hills, California.

The victims were shot with a shotgun and a pistol. The bodies were found in the home’s movie room, and it was the brothers themselves who reported the crime to the police.

However, they did not tell the truth, instead claiming they had found the bodies when they returned from a movie. Initially, the case focused on a possible robbery or external attack, but the investigation proved otherwise.

The brothers claimed they killed their parents in an act of rage and desperation due to the physical and emotional abuse they alleged they had suffered during their childhood. Their case was one of the most high-profile and impactful.
