One of the trending titles on Netflix this week is the sci-fi series “Supacell,” which follows a group of people who develop powers unexpectedly, making them the target of a secret organization. Apart from receiving rave reviews, one of the show’s breakout stars is Josh Tedeku.

In the series, directed by Rapman, Tedeku plays Tazer, a character that has divided audiences due to its rebellious nature and reckless attitude. However, while the character might be divisive, Tedeku’s performance has received universal acclaim.

Speaking to The Face, the 21-year-old actor said that he was so “lucky” to get the part. “The stature of the story for our culture was so mad. It’s something that’s never been done before, so everybody wanted to do it,” he expressed. But if you want to watch him in a radically different light, you can catch him in “Boarders,” a comedy available on Tubi (free).

‘Boarders,’ a smart comedy with Josh Tedeku

Created by Daniel Lawrence Taylor, this British series, originally airing on BBC, follows the lives of five young Black teens who earn scholarships into the prestigious boarding school of St. Gilbert’s. The coming-of-age story tackles themes such as race, alienation, friendship and more.

The series has been praised for ist tone, and it has even been compared to Netflix’s “Sex Education.” While the first season only has six episodes, you better catch up as it has been renewed for a second installment.

Apart from Tedeku, who stars as Jaheim, a talented student who is prone to angry outbursts, the main cast also consists of: Jodie Campbell, Myles Kamwendo, Aruna Jalloh and Sekou Diaby. Daniel Lawrence Taylor, Derek Riddell, Niky Wardley, Harry Gilby and Tallulah Greive also appear in supporting roles.

Speaking about his experience in ‘Boarders,’ Tedeku told The Face that the cast are “really close” to him, “like family,” as playing “a group of friends going to school is naturally just going to make it a bit more fun” than ‘Supercell.’”
