<p>When <strong>A24</strong> announced in April 2021 that they were producing an adaptation of <strong>Viet Thanh Nguyen’s</strong> novel <strong>“The Sympathizer”</strong> with <strong>Park Chan-wook</strong> directing, his fans eagerly awaited its release. After less than a week in <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/max">Max’s</a> catalog, the <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/drama">drama</a> production quickly rose <strong>to the #3 spot worldwide</strong>, according to FlixPatrol statistics.</p>



<p>It’s a <strong>limited mini-series</strong>, and what’s even more impressive about its ranking achievement is that it only has one episode available for viewing. Nguyen’s story is so powerful that it has already managed to captivate the platform’s viewers with just its beginning.</p>



<p>The plot revolves around the struggles of a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy during the <strong>Vietnam War</strong>, and his following life as a refugee in Los Angeles. There, he spies on the South Vietnamese community in which he is inserted, torn between his heritage and his duty.</p>

<p>In Park Chan-wook series, Robert portrays perhaps the most complex role of his career. He plays <strong>four different characters</strong>: one a CIA agent, an amateur film director based on <strong>Francis Ford Coppola</strong>, a grad school professor, and a Congressman.</p>



<p>While his acting is noteworthy, he never overshadows the rest of the cast, which includes outstanding performances from <strong>Hoa Xuande</strong>, <strong>Toan Le</strong>, <strong>Fred Nguyen Khan</strong>, and <strong>Sandra Oh</strong>, among others.</p>



<h2>Is ‘The Sympathizer’ based on a true story?</h2>



<p>Viet Thanh Nguyen’s narrative is so raw that many wondered if the story of “The Sympathizer” was based on real events. According to Esquire, the author’s inspiration was a man named<strong> Pham Xuan An</strong>, a North Vietnamese spy who wrote in the most prominent media outlets in the United States, without his coworkers knowing his true identity.</p>



<p>At the same time, the mini-series <strong>possesses a contradiction</strong> because it attempts to shed light on all the identities that were hidden during the Vietnam War. It is based on the real lives of people who kept their existences secret.</p>



<p>In summary, the novel draws loose inspiration from the life of Pham Xuan An and the spies of the Vietnam conflict to create an alternate narrative. This can be seen in the main character, <strong>The Captain</strong>, whose nickname disguises all those split identities.</p>

<p>The episodes follow a family gathering to celebrate the Swedish summer solstice, but old secrets come to light, ruining the occasion. The drama quickly takes over, unleashing great chaos.</p>

<p>Far from being a classic detective story, <strong>Sugar</strong> with renews the genre and adds a special ingredient: a cynical main character whose specialty is finding lost or missing persons, played by <strong>Colin Farrell</strong>. As expected, the <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/series">series</a> <strong>has become the No. 1 globally</strong>.</p>



<p>According to Flix Patrol, the production joined the<strong> Apple TV+</strong> catalog a few weeks ago and not only continues to trend but has also <strong>claimed the top spot</strong> in the Top 10 in multiple countries, including the United States, where it displaced Palm Royale.</p>

<p>The narrative of each episode is “a contemporary version of the private detective story set in Los Angeles”. Mystery, crime and <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/drama">drama</a> characterize the show, which has not yet reached its conclusion.</p>



<p>The plot revolves around John Sugar, an outgoing detective known for his kindness and patience. With a luxurious lifestyle and a perfect job for him, he finds himself at a crossroads when summoned by a prestigious film producer.</p>



<p>Just because Farrell leads the story doesn’t mean there aren’t other big stars in the cast. The actor was joined by <strong>Kirby</strong> in one of the main roles, <strong>Amy Ryan</strong> as Melanie and <strong>Anna Gunn</strong> as Margit.</p>



<p>The list of important talents is quite long, but in addition to the four figures present in all eight episodes, <strong>Dennis Boutsikaris</strong>, <strong>Alex Hernandez</strong>, <strong>Nate Corddry</strong> and <strong>James Cromwell</strong> also appeared.</p>

<p>Created by <strong>Pablo Gonzalez</strong> and <strong>C.S. Prince</strong>, the <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/drama">drama</a> is packed with suspense, unexpected twists, unpredictable settings and a quite complex story, which is carried out by outgoing and quirky characters.</p>



<p>The first season of the <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/tv">TV</a> show consists of a total of six episodes, all of which have been added to the platform’s catalog together. <strong>Monica Lopera</strong> is one of the many protagonists, alongside <strong>Johan Rivera</strong> and <strong>Arif S. <p>Netflix has refreshed its Top 10 again, and two days ago, the new Colombian <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/series">series</a> “<strong>The Hijacking of Flight 601</strong>” managed to <strong>reach the number 5 spot</strong> among the most-watched on the platform currently, according to Flix Patrol.</p>



<p>The specialized site reported that the production has quickly gained ground and had a significant number of new views, which pushed it past other titles like “The Gentlemen” with <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/netflix/netflix-kaya-scodelario-and-theo-james-the-gentlemen-is-the-no-2-series-in-the-us">Theo James</a> and “Heartbreak High”.</p>

<p>The story follows two armed and hooded individuals who hijack and threaten to blow up Flight 601 unless the Colombian government releases 50 political prisoners and pays them a substantial ransom in cash.</p>



<p>According to Tudum, the episodes are inspired by one of the longest air hijackings in Latin American history, which took place in May 1973. The plot is based on the events surrounding <strong>SAM Colombia Flight HK-1274</strong>.</p>



<p>The real-life events were carried out by Paraguayan footballers who seized the plane and its 84 passengers to demand a ransom of $200,000. Not only was it one of the longest flights but also one of the longest in distance, as it was diverted multiple times.</p>
