According to Elle, one of the film’s producers, Tim Haslam, described Shattuck’s story as a combination of “the epic and intimate minutiae of life, capturing the freedom and truth of human instinct and its conflict with expectation.”

And, now, author Emily Henry, whose three of her beloved novels are being adapted into movies, has posted a picture of the pair on her Instagram story… And fans can’t help but wonder: what does this mean?



Let’s get the facts straight. Edebiri, 28, shared a picture with Mescal, 28, on her Instagram story on Sunday, March 17 celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day. If you aren’t aware, Edebiri has a running joke in which she pretends to be from Ireland, which, at this point, has even been picked up by the media.

Of course, the picture made sense, not only because Mescal and Edebiri are friends, but also part of the joke. <h2>Could Paul Mescal and Ayo Edebiri lead one of Emily Henry’s rom-coms?</h2>



So far, there’s no official comment on the matter. However, there are reasons to believe that this re-post isn’t just something random. For one, one of Henry’s novels being adapted is “Book Lovers,” and the production company behind the project is Tango, the same one that worked on Charlotte Well’s “Aftersun.”

If that doesn’t ring a bell, “Aftersun” was Paul Mescal’s first film lead project. His portrayal of Callum, a depressed father who takes his 11-year-old daughter to a vacation in Turkey, was critically acclaimed and earned him his first Oscar nomination for Best Actor.



Meanwhile, Sarah Hayward, known for working on “Girls” and “Modern Love,” is attached to write the script. On her Instagram post announcing the adaptation, Henry went on to say that she trusts producers because they “understand why THIS story, about two broken people trying to open themselves up enough to be truly known, matters to me and us.”



“This movie is going to funny, cozy, moving, and messy. I can’t wait,” she added. Apart from “Book Lovers” the other novels of the author that will be adapted are “People We Meet on Vacation” and “Beach Read.”

His great rise to be recognized as one of the most talented young stars in Hollywood occurred in 2020, and his stint on Normal People was marked by critical acclaim and public attention.

<h5>Gladiator 2</h5>



Paul is the one who was chosen to bring the main character, Lucius, to life. The story will take place 20 years after the events of the original film and will follow the grown-up son of Lucilla, who assumes the legacy of Maximus.



The actor will be accompanied by some of the most iconic stars in the industry right now. Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn and Derek Jacobi are among them. Connie Nielsen will be back to portray Lucilla once again.



Ridley Scott is the one in charge of directing the film, based on a script written by David Scarpa. The release date was recently announced, and the sequel is set to hit the big screen on November 22, 2024.

<h5>Hamnet</h5>



This time, the young star will bring to life an iconic playwright and poet: William Shakespeare. Hamnet will be starred by Jessie Buckley as Agnes Shakespeare, with whom he previously shared the screen in the Oscar-nominated “The Lost Daughter” by Maggie Gyllenhaal.



During an interview with Radhika Seth from British Vogue, Mescal confessed, “That script… it’s just devastating. I can’t wait. If I told a younger version of myself that this would be [filming] this year, I wouldn’t believe it. I’ve obviously been in a film with Jessie before, but we’ve never shared the screen or a working process together“.



He then added, “I think she’s one of our greats today. And Chloé is someone I can’t wait to get into the weeds with and get into the heads of these characters“, referring to director Chloé Zhao, who was accompanied by Maggie O’Farrell as the screenwriter.



The film will follow the life of Agnes, Shakespeare’s wife, who struggles to overcome the loss of their only son, Hamnet. It’s a human and heart-wrenching story set against the backdrop of the creation of Shakespeare’s most famous work, “Hamlet”.



<h5>Merrily We Roll Along</h5>



Paul is ready to immerse himself once again in a musical, and soon it will be his turn for the film adaptation of Merrily We Roll Along. There, he will bring to life Franklin Shepard, alongside Beanie Feldstein and Ben Platt in the roles of Mary Flynn and Charley Kringas.



The film is a musical comedy about coming of age and will be directed by Richard Linklater. It is based on the musical by Stephen Sondheim and George Furth, which debuted in 1981 and is, in turn, adapted from the 1934 play of the same name by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart.

Jason Blum has joined the project as a producer to bring the film to life under his company, Blumhouse Productions. The story follows Shepard, a talented Broadway composer who leaves his theatrical career in New York and all his friends to produce movies in Los Angeles.



The narrative unfolds over 20 years in reverse chronological order, so it was announced that the production would be filmed every two years to reflect the characters’ ages over those 20 years, similar to “Boyhood”, which was filmed over 12 years and also directed by Linklater.



Filming was halted in 2023 due to the writers and actors’ strike, so it has not been confirmed whether it has resumed or when it will. This means there is still no scheduled release date, indicating that we may have to wait quite a while to finally see the title on the big screen.



<h5>The History of Sound</h5>



The actor continues with LGBT romantic dramas, and this time it’s the adaptation of Oliver Hermanus‘s The History of Sound. Scripted by Ben Shattuck, the film will bring Mescal to the screen as Lionel and Josh O’Connor as David.



The story is set during World War I and follows two young men who set out to record the lives, voices, and music of their fellow Americans.

This week on <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/max">Max</a>, one of the top movies worldwide is “Carmen,” a musical <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/drama">drama</a> starring <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/paul-mescal">Paul Mescal</a> and Melissa Barrera. The movie, which was released in 2022, is currently the second most watched title on the platform, only behind Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie,” according to FlixPatrol.



However, in the US, the movie isn’t available on the platform, but instead you can rent it on Amazon, Google, Youtube and Vudu. Set in the present day along the Mexico-U.S. border, it follows Carmen (Barrera) as she travels from Mexico to Los Angeles looking for freedom, and her romance with Aidan (Mescal), a Marine with PTSD.



<h2>Mescal showcase his musical talent in ‘Carmen’</h2>



Mescal filmed this movie at the same time as “Aftersun,” the drama for which he got his first Oscar nomination for Best Actor. The Irish star, who is also known for the BBC series “Normal People,” showcases his musical talent by singing, playing guitar and dancing in “Carmen.”

Barrera, who is known for appearing in “Scream” and the Netflix’s series “Keep Breathing,” said that Mescal was “strong and very graceful,” despite not having experience at dancing in this capacity. “He’s a natural. And he’s one of those actors that are just good at everything. Probably he could do anything,” she told People Magazine.



Millepied, a former Director of Dance at the Paris Opera, is known for his work in the ballet sequences in “Black Swan.” Here, he teams up with composer Nicholas Britell (Succession, Moonlight, Andor) who created new songs for the movie with Julieta Venegas and Taura Stinson.

The film received mixed reviews, with critics praising the performances of the cast, as well as the choreography and style. However, many found the story an emotionally hollow adaptation of the tragic novella.

Garth Davis’ Foe is one of the most watched movies on Prime Video this week, just behind Saltburn, according to FlixPatrol. The film was released on Jan. 5, and it stars Oscar-nominated actors Paul Mescal and Saoirse Ronan.



It’s a sci-fi psychological thriller which follows a married couple, Hen and Junior, living on a farm in the near future. Their lives take an unexpected turn when a visitor reveals that Terrence will embark on a space mission, and Hen will be provided with an AI companion during his absence.



The script, co-written by Davis and Iain Reid, is based on Reid’s 2018 novel of the same name. It premiered back in September at the New York Film Festival, and it had a theatrical run. While it didn’t make much noise at the box office, it seems like it will be one of the hits for the platform.



<h2>Foe wasn’t well received by critics</h2>



Part of the reason that the film didn’t do well at the box office is that it wasn’t well received by critics. It currently has a 23% of approval on the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. Some reviews called the film “constrived,” “melodramatic” and not entirely original.

However, all the critics agree that Mescal and Ronan’s performances elevate the material, even a crazy plot twist by the end of the film. It’s not surprising, especially as both Irish actors are some of the most acclaimed of their generation.



This is Ronan’s most recent feature, after starring in the comedy See How They Run (2022). She has two other projects in post-production. One is the historical drama Blitz, which will be directed by Steve MQueen, and the other is The Outrun, which she is also producing.



Meanwhile, Mescal is currently promoting the fantasy drama All Of Us Strangers, in which he stars alongside Andrew Scott, Claire Foy and Jamie Bell. He already filmed Gladiator’s sequel, directed by Ridley Scott.
