Directed by Doug Liman, the movie also has former UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor among the cast members. He plays the character Knox, described as Dalton’s nemesis.

Meanwhile, Daniela Melchior (Marlowe, Fast X) will play Ellie. Darren Barnet, Lukas Gage, Jessica Williams, Billy Magnussen, Joaquim De Almeida, Kevin Carroll and JD Pardo complete the cast.

According to the official synopsis, the film will follow ex-UFC fighter Dalton, portrayed by Gyllenhaal, who takes on the role of a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to unravel the mysteries hidden within this seemingly idyllic paradise.

The original film starred Swayze as a cooler at a newly refurbished roadside bar who protects a small town in Missouri from a corrupt businessman, played by Ben Gazzara. Meanwhile, Kelly Lynch played his love interest.

Gyllenhaal displayed his dedication to the role, as witnessed during a surprise appearance at UFC 285 in Las Vegas in March 2023, where several scenes were shot in front of a live crowd. He fought MMA world champion Jay Hieron, who was playing Dalton’s competitor Jack Harris.

This isn’t the first time Gyllenhaal has transformed his physique for a role, as seen in his previous portrayal of a boxer in the 2015 film “Southpaw.” The actor previously starred alongside Swayze in the movie “Donnie Darko” (1988) and on his birthday on December 23rd, he posted a photo celebrating with a shirt of the late star.
