Renner talks Season 3 of ‘Mayor of Kingstown’

According to the official logline for season 3 of the series, this installment will explore how Mike McLusky (Renner) has to end a new drug war inside and outside prison wall.s However, a familiar face from his incarcerated past will threaten his attempts to achieve peace. He has to deal with the loss of his mother Mariam (Dianne Wiest), while also protecting his newborn nephew.

In that sense, Renner told CinemaBlend that his character goes through a “rebirth,” after these events. “He has a resentment that the baby is birthed because the death of his mom is a rebirth. But like, what’s the baby birthed into, right? He knows the future of this, right? He tried to get Iris out in Season 1. ‘Get out of here.’”

He further explains that this is exactly the theme of the series. “‘What is your future? Right? What are the hopes for the child?’ And that’s kind of the underlying theme, I think, of the show all the time,” he explained to the outlet.

The first two episodes of the third season are already available to stream. The rest of the series is premiering all Sundays at 3 P.M. on Paramount+. So far, the season has received mostly positive reviews, according to Rotten Tomatoes (with 80% of approval).
