The Platform” achieved its first success over four years ago when it launched its first installment on Netflix. Now, the new sequel of the Spanish drama is expected to have the same impact among users of the service worldwide.

Directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia (Rich Flu, La casa del lago and El ataúd de cristal), who also helmed the first movie in 2019, the sequel promises to continue exploring the harsh social critique present in the original story.

It centers on a vertical prison system where food is distributed in a way that creates a Darwinian struggle for survival among the inmates, who are now portrayed by Milena Smit and Hovik Keuchkerian.

Could The Platform have a third movie on Netflix?

So far, a third movie in the The Platform franchise has not been officially confirmed. However, expectations for new developments are high, especially following the release of its sequel on October 4.

Like its predecessor, the new Spanish horror drama on Netflix touches on themes of class struggle and human despair, ultimately leading to an equally dark and provocative narrative.

Although none of the producers have commented on the future of this now-duology, there are hopes for the project. Before confirming any updates, the streaming giant will need to assess its viewership performance.

The story has a rather intriguing ending and continues the events of the brutal vertical prison system that became a cultural phenomenon in the original thriller, which arrived on the platform in 2019.
