Since Ryan Murphy released the second season of “Monster”, which portrayed the story of the Menendez brothers, the whole world has become obsessed with them, and they have received a great deal of global attention.
After the producer of series like Grotesquerie received several criticisms for not accurately telling the events, Netflix produced a new documentary where the brothers themselves explain the gruesome crime and the trials.
Both Lyle and Erik were contacted in prison to participate in the film, through which we not only get to see previously unseen archive material, but we also hear from their own mouths what really happened.
Could The Menendez Brothers get a sequel on Netflix?
“The Menendez Brothers” arrived on Netflix on October 7 and has since become one of the platform’s top trends, currently the most-watched movie worldwide, surpassing The Predator, according to Flix Patrol.
This is why many have been wondering if the documentary could have a sequel. However, it is most likely that this will not actually happen, as the production has already achieved its goal: for Lyle and Erik to tell their truth.
There would be no reason to produce a sequel. However, this doesn’t mean there couldn’t be other related productions, as the renewed interest in the case might lead to more content in the future.
How did The Menendez Brothers come about?
“The Menendez Brothers” were not on the creators’ minds until “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” premiered on September 19. After the show turned into a big drama, Netflix got to work.
It all started after Erik and Lyle Menendez, who are currently 53 and 56 years old, learned about the events depicted in the episodes and said that some things portrayed in the series had not actually happened.
Erik’s wife posted a statement on X sharing her partner’s words, in which he criticized the production the day after its premiere, describing the television title as “disheartening slander“. He also said:

Ryan Murphy's Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story: Where are they currently?
“I believed we had moved beyond the lies and ruinous character portrayals of Lyle, creating a caricature of Lyle rooted in horrible and blatant lies rampant in the show. I can only believe they were done so on purpose. It is with a heavy heart that I say, I believe Ryan Murphy cannot be this naive and inaccurate about the facts of our lives so as to do this without bad intent“.
After Ryan Murphy gave no response and confirmed that he did not reach out to the brothers before carrying out the show, the streaming giant released the documentary film, narrated by Erik and Lyle from prison.
