After four years in production, “The Union” has finally landed on Netflix, quickly becoming a hit and demonstrating just how eagerly audiences were awaiting its release. Within hours, the film soared to the top spot worldwide, according to FlixPatrol.

The movie reunites Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry on screen, this time as Mike McKenna and his high school love, Roxanne Hall. But they’re not your average couple. Mike starts off as a down-to-earth construction worker but is suddenly thrust into the world of spies and secret agents when Roxanne recruits him for a dangerous mission.

Audiences are falling in love with the picture, and many are already clamoring for a sequel that could further explore their relationship. Here’s what the actors said about the possibility of continuing the story. Be careful! There are some spoilers ahead.

Is ‘The Union’ set for a follow-up? Halle Berry and Mark Wahlberg reveal plans

At the premiere of “The Union,” Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry were asked by Variety about various aspects of the film, including why their characters didn’t share a single kiss. Director Julian Farino responded, not only hinting at the possibility of a sequel but suggesting even more to come.

“We take the relationship to a certain place, and then I think you’ve got to leave a lot of space to go,” Farino told Variety. “Netflix always said to us at the beginning, ‘You have to think of this as a possible three-movie idea.’ So if an audience comes out wanting a kiss, then we’ve probably done alright, in my opinion”.

Berry echoed this sentiment, expressing her excitement about further developing their characters: “Once they kiss, then it’s over. We’re hoping if we get to do a second one, we’ll let that chase continue. You want to see the journey — to see these two high school sweethearts find each other”.

While the story was always intended to extend beyond one installment, recent events, such as Prime Video’s cancellation of “My Lady Jane,” remind us that more than just viewership is needed to ensure a production’s continuation. If a second title does happen, it’s likely we won’t see it until 2026, as both Berry and Wahlberg have a packed schedule of upcoming projects.
