“Uglies” is Netflix‘s next big adaptation, based on the popular science fiction book of the same name written by Scott Westerfeld, which has been a huge success among young adult readers.
Joey King has been cast in the lead role of Tally Youngblood and also serves as an executive producer for the project. The director is McG, known for films like Charlie’s Angels and Terminator Salvation.
The story is set in a future where, upon turning 16, all teenagers must undergo mandatory cosmetic surgery to become “Pretties” and join an apparently perfect society. Chase Stokes is also part of the drama in a main role.

Who composed the score for Uglies?
The score for the film adaptation of Uglies was composed by Edward Shearmur, who is known for other popular productions like “Charlie’s Angels”, “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow” and “Miss Congeniality”.
The 58-year-old artist is a British composer who began his career as an assistant to composer Michael Kamen, working on major projects like “Licence to Kill” and “Die Hard” with Bruce Willis.
He has shown versatility by combining orchestral arrangements with electronic elements. In “Uglies”, he is expected to blend futuristic electronic sounds with powerful themes to reflect the rebellious and dystopian nature of the movie.
