Netflix has acquired the rights to adapt “Uglies” by Scott Westerfeld into a film, starring Joey King (The Kissing Booth and A Family Affair) as Tally Youngblood and directed by McG (Terminator Salvation and Charlie’s Angels).

The title is highly anticipated, especially by fans of the book, who are eager to see how the social critique and exploration of identity and beauty from the novel will be translated to the visual medium.

When is Uglies coming to Netflix?

The adaptation of the novel by Scott Westerfeld, “Uglies“, now has a release date on Netflix, and if everything goes as planned, the sci-fi drama will join the streaming platform’s catalog on September 13, 2024.

Joey King plays the main character, but she is not the only well-known and talented star in the cast. She is joined by Laverne Cox and Chase Stokes, known for his role as John B Routledge in the series Outer Banks.

The story is set in a future where people undergo surgery at the age of 16 to become “pretties”, in an effort to equalize society and eliminate inequality and discomfort.

The protagonist, Tally Youngblood, is eager to become “pretty”, but when she meets a rebel named Shay, she begins to question the true purpose of the surgery and the system in which she lives.
