Season 5 of Stranger Things is one of the most anticipated productions. Here's what to know about the filming locations of the sci-fi Netflix series.

Season 5 of Stranger Things is coming closer, and Neftlix has revealed the first behind-the-scenes video for the upcoming installment. In the video, Caleb McLaughlin, who plays Lucas in the series, reveals that production is halfway through. However, many fans are more curious about filming locations for the show.

The sci-fi series is located in the fictional rural town of Hawkins, which is set in Indiana. In the video, we can see mostly that the production uses many sets, especially when it comes to creating the famous underworld.

However, of course, there are real locations that are used for Hawkins High School, streets and more. Production takes place in Atlanta. Here’s what to know about the locations you can see on the series.

Where is Stranger Things Season 5 being filmed?

Per Variety, Season 5 of Stranger Things has been filming in “Atlanta-based soundstages.” However, Collider lists a series of locations that include: Bellwood Quarry, Patrick Henry High School, and Stone Mountain Park.

Other locations include the Sleepy Hollow Farm in Georgia, which serves for the exterior scenes of Hopper’s cabin. Meanwhile, exterior scenes for the Hawkins Laboratory were filmed in Georgia Mental Health Institute in Atlanta, which operated from 1965 to 1997. However, the building was demolished in 2022.

Stranger Things: Other locations for Season 3 and Season 4

Another iconic location for Season 3 was the introduction of the Starcourt Mall, which in real life is the Gwinnett Place Mall in Duluth, near Atlanta. In Season 4, production also took place in New Mexico for scenes set in California, meanwhile the Kamchatka prison scenes were shot at the historic Lukiškės Prison in Vilnius, Lithuania.
