Tarot has long been one of the most enigmatic tools in the world of fortune-telling, with its secrets remaining largely unrevealed. It’s no surprise, then, that it serves as the central theme of the 2024 horror film “Tarot,” which has quickly garnered a substantial viewership on Netflix in the United States.

The movie was directed by Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg, known for their work on the 2022 sci-fi podcast series “Classified.” The flick is loosely based on the 1992 novel “Horrorscope” by Nicholas Adams. While the adaptation hasn’t received widespread acclaim from critics, many consider it an ideal choice for streaming, particularly for a movie night with friends.

If you enjoy franchises like “Final Destination” or “Saw,” you’re likely to appreciate “Tarot” as well. The picture creatively incorporates the archetypes of tarot cards into its storyline, featuring unique and eerie methods of death that are sure to captivate fans of the genre.

With ease, it outpaced “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” and “Land of Bad,” both of which were major trends in recent weeks. Currently, the production is in a tight race with “Trolls Band Together” as it continues to climb the charts.

The story follows a group of friends who rent a mansion in the Catskills to celebrate one of their birthdays. For fun, they decide to have their horoscopes read using a mysterious deck of tarot cards they find in the mansion’s basement.

Naturally, they break the number one rule of tarot: never use a deck that doesn’t belong to you. As a result, they are soon plagued by terrifying events. To survive, they must unravel the mystery of the curse that haunts them before it’s too late.
