In the ever-expanding universe of Netflix‘s August 2024 releases, one film has become one of the new trending titles worldwide. According to FlixPatrol, as of August 4, the Indonesian thriller ‘Borderless Fog’ has climbed to the fourth spot of the most-watched list on the platform.

This gripping murder thriller is set against the lush and mysterious backdrop of Borneo along the Indonesian and Malaysian border. The film follows Inspector Sanja, portrayed by Putri Marino. She is thrust into a chilling investigation when a decapitated corpse, with the wrong head, is discovered on the border. This bizarre and grisly crime sets the stage for the mystery.

The movie has been well-received by some critics, who have praised its atmosphere, tension and the intriguing premise. However, for some, the film needed a more satisfying conclusion. Here’s what to know about it.

‘Borderless Fog’: Who is the director?

The movie is directed by Edwin, an acclaimed filmmaker known for his award-winning work. His previous accolades include the Golden Leopard at the 2021 Locarno Film Festival and Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay at the 2022 Indonesian Film Festival for Vengeance is Mine, All Others Pay Cash.

“I am interested in the stories, culture, and lives of the people along the border. The film features the point of view of someone who’s lived his whole life in Jakarta or Java, who learned a lot about Indonesia through the lens of the borderlands.
