‘Beef’ was one of the most-watched series on Netflix in 2023, as well as one of the most awarded shows. The anthology series won eight Emmys, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series and acting wins for Steven Yeun and Ali Wong. And now the story will continue with new characters.

Created by Lee Sung Jin, the series followed Yeun and Wong as two strangers whose involvement in a road rage incident escalates into a prolonged feud. Joseph Lee, Young Mazino, David Choe, and Patti Yasutake appeared in supporting roles.

Now, according to reports, the drama will stick to the format, but now instead of two individuals feuding, there will be two couples feuding. While details for the second season have been scarce, we’ve got some news regarding the cast, as well as production.

Has ‘Beef’ been officially renewed for a second season?

Well, actually no. According to Deadline, insiders say that Netflix hasn’t given an official Season 2 greenlight. However, there are plans, as there has also been reports of negotiations with potential cast members.

While Lee Sung Jin had envisioned it as a limited series, he revealed to Variety that he was open to expanding the project. “I feel like there are many paths. It could stay limited; it was a very closed story. But if Netflix wants to continue, it could also be an anthology. It could be many things. It depends on the big algorithm. We’re waiting to hear from it,” he told the outlet.

Who will be joining the cast of the second season ‘Beef’?

While at first it was reported that Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhgaal would be leading the second season of ‘Beef,’ Deadline now reports that the plan “ultimately did not come to fruition.”

Now, however, producers are eyeing Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan to take on the roles intended for the former. But there’s no official comment on the casting by Netflix yet. Meanwhile, Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny (who has also recently joined the cast of Knives Out 3) are set to star as the other couple.
