Although the “Tron” franchise has seen numerous celebrities come and go, Jeff Bridges undeniably stands as its iconic figure. Having portrayed the protagonist in the first installment and reprising a pivotal role as the father of Samuel Flynn in “Tron: Legacy,” his presence is synonymous with the pictures.
Since the announcement of the third installment of the universe fourteen years ago, fans eagerly anticipated updates, anxiously hoping for Bridges’ return. Until recently, it appeared uncertain whether the “The Big Lebowski” actor would reprise his role in “Tron: Ares.”
However, a fresh interview on the Film Comment podcast may have good news for those who were expecting him to be involved. Here, check what Jeff Bridges said about his participation.
Jeff Bridges to star as Kevin Flynn in Tron: Ares
There was much anticipation surrounding Bridges’ potential involvement in the upcoming installment of the franchise, particularly considering the ambiguous ending of his character in “Tron: Legacy.” Based on his recent statements, it looks like we may not have seen the last of Kevin Flynn just yet:
“I’m heading off this Saturday to play a part in the third installment of the ‘Tron’ story; I’m excited about that. It’s wild. Jared Leto is the star of this third one, and I’m really anxious to work with him, and I’ve admired his work.”

Neverthless, excitement should be tempered as Garrett Hedlund, who portrayed Flynn’s son in the 2010 film, is notably missing from the already announced cast. This absence diminishes hopes of a father-son reunion, an expectation cherished by fans.
Moreover, proof suggests that “Tron: Ares” may diverge significantly from its predecessors, as evidenced by the introduction of new leading names such as Evan Peters, Jared Leto, and Gillian Anderson, among others.
Given that the movie won’t hit screens until October 10 next year, it’s highly likely that more celebrities may join the cast. But, at present, the assurance of Jeff Bridges’ involvement is exactly what we were hoping to hear.
