Now that “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” is officially happening and will have its big film adaptation, many fans and readers of the saga want to know who will be the actor playing the young version of Haymitch.
The story will continue to explore Panem but this time 24 years after the time of Katniss Everdeen, starting on the morning of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, where Abernathy participates and wins, later becoming a mentor.

Well, no!So far, there is no confirmed actor to play the role of young Haymitch Abernathy. However, there have been multiple rumors, and one of the strongest theories suggests that Mike Faist has been one of the candidates.
Filming is set to begin in the latter half of 2025, so it’s still a bit early to know who has been chosen to star in “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping”. Without a doubt, the actor from Challengers would be a great option.
In addition to the star also known for The Bikeriders and West Side Story, there were other figures who have been considered options according to the saga’s fans, with the two most notable being Louis Hofmann and Tom Glynn-Carney.
In what period is Sunrise on the Reaping set?
Sunrise on the Reaping is set 40 years after the events of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and 24 years before the first movie of The Hunger Games with Jennifer Lawrence. Therefore, it will take place during the Second Quarter Quell.
Despite many not knowing, there is a short film made by fans about this era called “Hunger Games: The Second Quarter Quell”. It tells the story of the day when double the tributes are sent, and Haymitch Abernathy emerges victorious.
